Helpful Hints
As we talked over all the things that should or could go on this website, we came up with all the little things that we felt were important at some time but just did not fit under our existing links. Listed below are a few; we know you can add more.  Just drop us an email at info@amygoestoboston.com.
  1. When you apply for your Massachusetts Fast Pass you will need to know the color of your license plate. I had to walk out of the mall to the parking lot to look to see if it were green or red.
  2. Boston cabs will carry only four passengers. One in front and three in the back. There is no such thing as a kid sitting on a lap anymore. We learned this when we had the west coast cousins in Boston and had five people.
  3. We learned to pack the van with all the goodies that we thought anyone would need… Coke, good Kleenex, laundry soap, etc. We avoided Boston prices with some of the stuff.
  4. Yes, Storrow Drive and flood if it rains real hard. Avoid it right after a heavy storm.
  5. We found the men who are in offices of the Shapiro Garage to be very helpful. After discovering a near flat tire, they directed us to the nearest Goodyear store up the street who repaired the tire. They know where to go for all kinds of things.
  6. To obtain a Fast Lane transponder for the Pike go to www.massturnpike.com – the initial fee is $27.50 and you must put $20.00 in the account – it will be refilled when it drops below $10.00. You may be able to use this account for your Massachusetts Taxes (schedule “Y” number 9) – Fees over $150.00 for Fast Lane or MBTA transit up to $750.00. Also, on IRS Form 1040 Schedule A, you may deduct any Medical or Dental Expenses over 7.5% of your Form 1040 Line 37 (adjusted gross income). Go to www.IRS.gov for 1040 Forms and Instructions – pages A1 & A2 for complete instructions.
